Patrick P. Rizzo Memorial Scholarship
Patrick P. Rizzo, founded AJ Jersey in Linden NJ in 1970. He started the company in a small flex space 1000 square foot, ground level unit. Initially only selling lift tables, shelving and storage products. Crown Controls, as it was named back then, was also a small growing manufacturer that was manufacturing only hydraulic manual pump jacks and a small hand pump lift stacker that catered to the printing industry. As time went by, the tow companies grew and expanded into electric jacks, and electric lifts. The market in central New Jersey was growing and AJ Jersey expanded with it. Pat Rizzo continually reinvested in people and product, and today AJ Jersey is a leader in the NJ marketplace because of this commitment
Pat was born and raised in Brooklyn NY, and graduated from Brooklyn Tech, an elite engineering High School. He held patents for some hydraulic and mechanical lift devices. One of which was used to lift the chassis off the body of NY City train cars. After High School his skills in math and engineering took him to the Army Air Corp , and he became a Bombardier Engineer/Navigator in WW2, flying in many missions over Europe in the B25 Bomber.
After WW2 he graduated from Brooklyn College and became a teacher. His love for teaching is what made him such a successful business owner. He loved to train and educate new employees in the Material Handling business. His hands on training and love of the industry and how it worked, better prepared his employees to represent, sell and apply the products…“Sales meant nothing if the product you sold, didn’t do the job it was meant to do”.
Known as the “Gentleman of the Industry” for his honesty and integrity in sales and customer service, his motto lives on today as AJ Jersey enters its 44th Year as a Crown Dealer and distributor of fine material handling solutions. “Good equipment……Properly Sold and Serviced”
Pat was a gymnast in College and High School, played Handball in Brooklyn to the age of 65, and served in the Air Force Reserves for 20 years.
Patrick P Rizzo lived in Westfield NJ since 1976 and passed away in February, 2010, at the original home he maintained since 1976
